Abstract

The opportunity for broiler breeders to contribute to the culinary development of the duck menu is very high because the culinary business with this menu is increasing rapidly, and the nutrition in duck meat is higher than other poultry meat. However, based on observations and interviews, farmers face the problem of weight diversity in harvesting their livestock, decreasing the chances of farmers as suppliers in the culinary business. Therefore, this study focuses on improving the consistency of duck weights through age-based management or cage management. This method uses in several stages based on the age of the livestock. The experimental results revealed an increase in the average weight of ducks at harvest from 1.3kg to 1.5kg. The experimental results also indicated a decrease in the diversity of duck weights from 0.3kg to 0.2kg. Based on this method, farmers can harvest their livestock every 30 days to reduce production costs and reduce sales waiting time (turnover). This study can contribute to the practice of rearing ducks carried out by local breeders, namely the closed umbaran cage, which requires 70 days of rearing.
