Abstract

The front office functions include reservations, registration, room and rate assigment, guest services, room status, maintenance and settlement of guest accounts, and creation of guest history records. The front office develops and maintains a comprehensive database of guest information, coordinates guest services, and ensures guest satisfaction. These functions are accomplished by personnel in diverse areas of the front office department. Large hotels often organize the front office according to functions, with different employees handling separate areas. This type of division of duties can enhance the control the front office has over its own operations. The front office of a mid-size hotel performs the same functions, but with fewer employees. Job duties are typically combined. For example, a front desk agent may serve as a receptionist, cashier, and mail and information clerk.
