The Metafunction Found In The Fairy Tale Of Cinderrella Taken From English Revolutionary.

The metafunctions found in “Cinderella” narrative text taken from“English revolution second edition”, Faculty of Language and CulturalStudies, Undergraduate Program of the University of Stikubank Semarang.Supervisor: Dr. Sugeng Purwanto, MA. This research examines the metafunctions found in“Cinderella” narrative text taken from “English revolution second edition”. The theory proposed by Halliday (2004)was used as the framework to analyze the metafunctions built in the narrativetext of Cinderella. The object of the study was analyzed using descriptivequalitative research as a method of study. There were several steps. First isanalyzing the data, second is explaining and the last is construing thecontexts of situation built in Cinderella narrative text. The result of the study shows that the processes used in the narrative text are materialprocesses (66.7%), relational, existential and verbal processes. Theparticipants are actor (38.1%), goal, carrier, attribute, sayer, target,existent, possessor, possessed, identified, identifier projected clause andbeneficiary: recipient. The kinds of circumstances in Cinderella’s narrativetext: they are circumstance Location (47.4%), accompaniment, manner, Extent,and role. The mood types are unmarked declarative mood (97.2%) and markeddeclarative mood and the last two theme types: they are topical theme (58.2%)and textual theme. The description of discourse created on Cinderella narrativetext concludes that the author is telling the reader about the cruelty ofstepmother and two stepsisters to Cinderella and the miracle of Cinderellathrough the assistance of the fairy godmother. The status is unequal, thesocial distance is between Cinderella and stepmother and two stepsisters isminimal because they have relationship in family, but it can be maximal becausethey are always cruel to her, and also shows that the textual meaning is legendstory and the role of language is constitutive.The suggestion forthe researcher, this is a great knowledge of knowing the way to analyzemetafunctions and the readers who read this research needs patience, because tounderstand this research, we as the readers must read it carefully.
